Lakewood Shootings

On November 29, 2009, four Lakewood, Wash. police officers were killed over their morning cup of coffee at a Forza Coffee Company location in nearby Parkland. Over the next 40 hours, a manhunt for suspect Maurice Clemmons was underway.

Cliff DesPeaux was a part of the Seattle Times team that won the Pulitzer Prize for Breaking News Reporting, utilizing Twitter to broadcast up-to-the-minute reports from inside police lines during a standoff with the suspect.

Both Poynter and Seattle Met have written about Cliff’s involvement in the coverage of the tragedy.
